The list runs in due order from each cow's own days with the bull, narrowed by the vet's mark. A cow that is clearly not in calf comes off with one click. The barn sheet has Alone, Easy, Hard, Vet and Alive, Dead to circle. Follow one calving through Kari.

Kari proposes who comes in and why, with nothing left out silently. It prints the sheet in the order you will write it, and lists the calves whose 200-day weight window closes soon, so they are weighed the same day.

Every cow is judged on six questions from her own records: a calf every year, early in the season, on her own, a heavy calf for her size, calm, sound. The reason stands beside each mark. Heifers are ranked from their own growth and their dam's record; cows that never missed are listed as bull dams. The farm sets the targets, and you decide at the walk.

Kari reads your own herd's hard calvings, light calves and long intervals, then lists EPJ's evaluation of every bull of your breed, sorted by the value your records flag. It also shows how closely he is related to your females. The list never picks the bull for you.

A season runs from turnout to turnout. Each figure is set against the season before. Every winter and grass group is also compared within itself, with both ends marked. The season a herd arrives is shown, never compared.

Beta · in development

Grazing

Today: plan the season on the chart, mark the paddock the herd is in from the phone, see which paddocks have rested enough and which cows held up on grass.

Becoming: the grazing record PRIA's field book asks for, written from the moves you already make, and the PRIA move report when a group crosses into another registered site.

Winter feed

Today: the winter budget, the bales in the yard, the feeding week, and every animal against its feed group on the same ration.

Becoming: the manure record for PRIA's field book from the bedding and feed you already log, and how well straw and feed turn into compost.

Finishing

Today: readiness in yard words, the slaughter result brought back onto the animal, its dam and its sire, and how well each person's fat score matches the grade.

Becoming: which lines carry meat quality and are worth breeding from.

Planned: sending to EPJ and PRIA directly, once they give access. Until then Kari prepares and you check and send.

Previews are drawn from Kari's screens, on made-up animals.

The six questions Kari asks of every cow
  1. 1A calf every yearIn calf, calved, weaned a calf. Every season.
  2. 2Early in the seasonIn the first three weeks, so the calf is old at weaning.
  3. 3On her ownNo help at calving; the calf up and sucking without you.
  4. 4A heavy calf for her sizeThe calf at 200 days against her own weight.
  5. 5CalmScored in the crush at every handling, 1 to 6.
  6. 6SoundUdder, teats, feet and legs, 1 to 5.

The targets are the farm's to set. A cow that fails one gets a mark with the reason; the decision is made at the crush.

What Kari says: she stays, above the herd's middle; keep her heifer calves. For the herd: kg weaned per cow put to the bull, this season against last.

The herd in the example is made up. Screens are drawn from Kari's own; real captures from the demo farm follow.

On the farm

I am Stefan Gernert, an agronomist. I run an Angus and Hereford suckler herd at Niiduveis in Lääne-Virumaa, and have worked with suckler herds in Sweden, Estonia and further afield for years.

Kari is years in the making: notes and a FileMaker herd file on my own cows, after one herd program after another proved good at storing and bad at telling me anything. In 2026 I rebuilt it from the ground up, writing the code with AI tools. Every sheet and screen is used on my own herd first.

Kari is made by Herdloop: Estonia first, then Latvia and Lithuania. I am looking for a co-founder.

The winter test

This winter a small number of Estonian beef suckler farms run Kari free on their own herds, from the housing weighing to the spring weighings. A guided run-through on a demo herd shows each job first; then I bring your herd in from Liisu with you and set up the first crush day.

Can I keep working on paper?

Yes. Every job prints as an A4 sheet with the same rows as the screen. Photograph it afterwards, or type it in.

Does it replace Liisu or e-PRIA?

No. EPJ keeps the official herd book and PRIA the register. Kari keeps the farm's own records and decisions. You file.

How do my animals get in?

One bookmark run in your own Liisu session reads your animals, their parents, every calving and weighing EPJ has. Kari never sees your Smart-ID.

What does it cost?

Nothing this winter. The test farms use it free, and we set the price together with them before the test ends.

Can I take my data out?

Yes. The records are yours. In Your data you download everything as one file, or delete the farm from Kari.
